Advanced pressure differential system for a leading German insurance high-rise

Zott cooling tunnels go Industry 4.0 with 120 NOVENCO® ZerAx® fans – 66% less energy
Zott SE & Co. KG, the European dairy producer behind Monte, Jogobella and Zottarella, has upgraded its cooling tunnels with new NOVENCO ZerAx fans.
The replacement of 120 outdated units cut energy consumption by 66% with a payback of less than 12 months. The retrofit also reduced maintenance needs, lowered noise levels, and improved system reliability with fewer stoppages. The new fans integrated seamlessly with the automation and control systems, supporting Zott’s transition toward Industry 4.0.

Heinenoord Tunnel renovation – NOVENCO® fans ensure safety and reliability
The Heinenoord Tunnel on the A29 highway underwent a major renovation in 2023–2024 to meet modern safety standards. The 614-meter tunnel opened in 1969, required a complete upgrade of its ventilation and pressurisation systems to ensure safe evacuation and effective smoke control during emergencies.
The existing installation had reached the end of its technical lifespan. The project therefore demanded reliable, high-performance fans capable of handling strict fire-safety requirements and continuous operation in challenging tunnel conditions. As part of the modernisation, the tunnel also received new technical systems and a central escape passage to comply with the latest national safety regulations.
From outdated ducts to efficient NOVENCO® jet fans
The Scheveningse Duyn residential complex in The Hague has modernised its underground parking ventilation system. The 30-year-old ductwork has been replaced with energy-efficient NOVENCO jet fans, combined with CO/LPG detection and advanced control panels.
The upgrade improves air quality, reduces energy consumption and simplifies maintenance. It also strengthens long-term reliability, creating a safe and future-proof parking environment for residents.
Project Meander II Amsterdam – improved reliability and efficiency for car park ventilation system
The existing car park ventilation system operated on single-phase, dual-speed, transformer-controlled radial fans. This outdated and inefficient setup caused partial malfunction and rising energy consumption. To restore reliability and improve performance, the system was upgraded with two NOVENCO® ZerAx® axial fans.
Each of the new fans employs a 0.8 kW motor for a total installed load of only 1.6 kW. This replaces the previous 3.2 kW and delivers a significant reduction in energy use together with a modern, dependable solution.
Luxury development protected with certified NOVENCO® ClearChoice™ system
NOVENCO Building & Industry has secured the contract from H&V Serviceplan to design, deliver, install and commission a fully certified NOVENCO ClearChoice smoke control and environmental ventilation systems for the Osiers Road development in Riverside Quarter, Wandsworth, London.
The project features high-efficiency NOVENCO ZerAx® smoke fans, fully tested and compliant with EN12101-3. The energy-efficient performance also supports the BREEAM certification of the development.
The most climate-neutral solution for a 700-metre deep mine shaft with a NOVENCO® ZerAx® fan
The latest renovation of the Teutschenthal backfill mine in Thüringen, Germany, focused on improving the ventilation system of the mine while reducing the environmental impact. For this project, NOVENCO Building & Industry delivered a highly efficient exhaust fan solution.
The system features a ø2000 mm diameter NOVENCO ZerAx fan powered by an IE5-class Nidec Dyneo+ PM motor and controlled with a Danfoss VLT frequency converter. The combination forms an EC+ high-efficiency setup with the highest possible system efficiency. Built for long life and minimal environmental footprint, the fan is 98% recyclable.
Jeremias® Chimney Systems supplied the complementary installation with a specially designed 36-metre steel chimney and ductwork.
Fraport AG saves 60% energy with NOVENCO® ZerAx® fans
The Fraport AG at Frankfurt Airport achieves significant energy and CO2 reductions after upgrading an older ventilation system with highly efficient Danfoss speed-controlled NOVENCO ZerAx fans. The modernisation delivers around 60% energy savings and reduces annual CO2 emissions by 2.2 kt. These results stand out in a market defined by rising energy prices and a strong sustainability focus.
The ZerAx design preserves the total energy of the airflow by maintaining static pressure while reducing dynamic pressure losses. This aerodynamic performance enables system efficiencies of up to 85%, setting a benchmark for efficient large-scale ventilation solutions.
Retrofit of foundry ventilation in the automotive industry with NOVENCO® ZerAx® fans
NOVENCO Building & Industry upgraded the ventilation system in the foundry of a German car manufacturer in partnership with T&S Klimatechnik und Montagebau GmbH. The previous installation from 2012 relied on seven large axial fans, each delivering 240,000 m³/h. The decommissioned units were powered by 160 kW motors on the inlet side through separate intermediate shafts.
The system had significant challenges, among them failures which were difficult to repair, and hard-replacable components due to the fan dimensions. As a result, the customer faced long production downtimes. The maintenance load was high because of the complex system design and the many wear parts involved.
The DS Group executes large retrofit project with NOVENCO® ZerAx® fans
The Dharampal Satyapal Group (DS Group), a leading Indian conglomerate, has completed the first phase of a major retrofit of the air handling units at its headquarters in Noida.
In this initial phase, the company replaced 40 outdated centrifugal fans with highly efficient NOVENCO ZerAx fans.
The retrofit marks an important milestone in the DS Group’s sustainability journey and supports its goal of achieving platinum certification for its sustainable buildings.
The highly sustainable modular student building protected with certified NOVENCO® ClearChoice™ system
The Lewisham Exchange in London, United Kingdom, delivers 758 student rooms and 67 affordable homes across two modular towers of 20 and 35 storeys. Both towers are built from volumetric 3D structural modules manufactured off-site. The method ensures high-quality finishes, short construction times, and up to 90% less waste compared to traditional building methods.
A mix of commercial units and student recreational spaces occupies the ground floor of both towers. These areas are designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating. Each tower also includes photovoltaic roof panels that provide a sustainable energy source.
Sustainability and life-safety system at the Grotius Towers
The Grotius Towers rise beside The Hague Central Station, reaching 120 and 100 metres. Completed in 2022, the two residential towers add 655 high-quality apartments, cafés, restaurants and an underground car park for 245 cars to the city centre.
NOVENCO® Building & Industry designed, supplied, installed and commissioned the certified pressurisation systems and the car park ventilation system. The project sets high sustainability requirements that align closely with NOVENCO’s own environmental objectives.
Control system upgrade delivers 85.5% energy savings
In 2001, NOVENCO® Building & Industry installed one of the first jet fan systems in the United Kingdom for an enclosed underground car park at a shopping mall on the scenic waterfront of a coastal city in South East England. The system was built without CO detection, which at the time was common practice.
The car park offers 1,350 spaces and operates 24/7. Even after two decades of continuous service, the NOVENCO fans still perform flawlessly. Without a CO monitoring system, many fans are switched on manually and run around the clock, resulting in significant unnecessary energy use. This setup is no longer acceptable in today’s energy-efficient environment, where optimised operation is essential.
Life-safety ventilation systems for the longest land tunnel in the Netherlands
The A9 corridor between Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam and Almere is one of the busiest routes in the Netherlands. Its reconstruction and expansion ease congestion and improve daily life for commuters. The motorway now has five lanes in each direction plus a tidal flow lane, creating smoother traffic flow and better access to the Randstad region.
The Gaasperdammertunnel is a key part of this upgrade. At 3 kilometres and with five tunnel tubes, it is the longest and widest land tunnel in the country. Routing all traffic through the semi-sunken tunnel removes traffic noise and emissions from the surrounding neighbourhoods. A new 15-hectare or 150.000 m2 park built on top of the tunnel further restores green space and enhances the local environment.

Iconic Maastunnel equipped with innovative NOVENCO® jet fans
The Maastunnel is a landmark crossing in the heart of Rotterdam. Construction began in 1937, and the tunnel opened in 1942. As the oldest tunnel in the Netherlands, it runs beneath the Nieuwe Maas river and forms part of the Rotterdam Tunnel Traverse, west of the city centre.
The enclosed section is 1,070 metres long and contains two traffic tubes, each with two lanes. Separate tubes are available for cyclists and pedestrians, ensuring safe and efficient passage for all users.

Ingenious BMW Welt equipped with NOVENCO® renowned jet fans
When the BMW Group set out to create a new brand-experience and car-delivery centre next to its corporate headquarters and the BMW Museum in Munich, the project drew global attention. A total of 275 architects took part in the international design competition for this landmark construction.
NOVENCO Building & Industry won the contract for the system design, equipment supply, commissioning and final approval of the BMW Museum visitor car park. The underground facility is fitted with high-quality NOVENCO axial flow fans and jet fans. All units are tested and approved to meet strict requirements for both CO-ventilation and smoke exhaust in the event of fire, ensuring safe conditions for visitors and staff.
Westgate Oxford shopping centre ensured with NOVENCO®’s reliable ventilation systems
Before its redevelopment, the former Westgate Centre was more than 40 years old and located in the heart of Oxford, one of England’s most historic cities. Today, the Westgate Oxford Shopping Centre is a modern 800,000-square-foot or approx. 74,000 m2 retail and leisure destination. The site includes a three-storey shopping complex, a 1,000-space underground car park and 61 new residential units.

NOVENCO® ZerAx® fans - Innovating AHU concepts
On 1st January 2018, the next stage of the Ecodesign Regulation 1253/2014 for air handling units came into force. The updated requirements focus on reducing energy consumption through improved AHU optimisation, especially for non-residential systems with large air volumes.
In recent years, heat recovery has become a widely adopted method for achieving energy savings. With regulations tightening further, investments have continued to drive higher efficiency in recovery systems. Yet the fans - responsible for up to 60% of an AHU’s electrical consumption - often receive less attention.
The strengthened Ecodesign limits for specific fan power (SFPlimit) will reshape how future AHU concepts are designed. High-efficiency fan technologies such as NOVENCO’s ZerAx fans will play a central role, helping systems meet new performance thresholds while delivering significant long-term energy reductions.

Copenhagen’s Axel Towers is a modern landmark—five sculpted towers in warm metallic tones, fused into one flowing architectural form. The building offers a vibrant destination in the city centre and includes a five-storey underground car park designed in accordance with contemporary requirements for safety, comfort and efficient airflow.
NOVENCO Building & Industry supplied high-efficiency NOVENCO® ZerAx® AZN-1250 fans for the fresh air intake. Across the entire parking facility, 28 NOVENCO AUO-290 jet fans direct polluted air to the extraction fans, ensuring clean conditions and reliable daily operation.
Water powered by NOVENCO® ZerAx® – Total energy retrofit of Norwegian Sima Power Station
Hydropower uses the force of falling or fast-moving water to produce electricity. It is one of the most cost-efficient renewable energy sources and, unlike coal or gas plants, hydropower stations consume no water during operation.
NOVENCO Building & Industry has supplied and installed nine high-efficiency ZerAx fans as part of a full energy-retrofit of the Sima Power Station. The fans ventilate all tunnels and work areas inside the mountain and remove the heat generated by the power house, transformers and generator sections. They secure reliable airflows, improve working conditions and contribute to the long-term energy performance of the station.
Nieuw Hoog Catharijne – five levels of fresh air below ground
The renewed and expanded mall Nieuw Hoog Catharijne in Utrecht, The Netherlands, features large, modern and transparent spaces. Designed in close cooperation with talented architects from Amsterdam and Los Angeles, the new layout creates a seamless connection between the shopping centre and the city centre. Two parallel boulevards run through the building from Central Station to the heart of the city, forming one continuous public space.
A striking architectural feature is the glass “Stadskamer”. Extending from bottom to top, it gives visitors a clear view of the flowing canal Catharijnesingel directly beneath their feet.
CS gruppen – NOVENCO® ZerAx® fan delivers reliable energy savings at –30 °C
The Danish logistics company CS Gruppen A/S manages daily distribution for the national food industry. Its freezer facilities are located across Denmark, and from the southern hub in Padborg alone the company ships 250–300 tons of food every day. In total, this equals 200,000 pallets per year.
Part of the operation is the freezing of fresh meat at –30 °C and storage of it at –18 °C until it leaves the site in freezer trucks and containers.
The company freezes up to 1,800 tons a day which requires a substantial and stable energy supply to keep production running in order to meet customers’ demands without interruption.

Carlsberg upgrades 1970s ventilation with high-efficiency NOVENCO® ZerAx® fans
Carlsberg Group aims to cut energy use and lower CO2 emissions across its production sites. At the Fredericia brewery, ventilation accounts for 23% of the total energy consumption. Every kWh saved reduces CO2 emissions and generates an additional 0.04 GBP per kWh in CO2 sales.
The decision to replace the original 1970s fans with new high-efficiency ZerAx fans was therefore driven primarily by financial savings. The old units had never been fine-tuned and operated at full capacity around the clock in very humid conditions in one of the 24/7 bottling halls. By switching to ZerAx fan technology, Carlsberg gains a modern, energy-efficient solution that lowers operating costs and supports the company’s climate goals.
NOVENCO® ZerAx® fans power efficient cooling in a Scandinavian data centre
A new hyperscale data centre in Northern Scandinavia, close to the Arctic Circle, uses the region’s naturally low temperatures to secure highly efficient cooling for its operation. The facility will cover an area equal to 13 football fields and is designed for an estimated power usage of 120 GW — the same consumption as roughly 16,000 households.
Thanks to the cold climate and the integration of NOVENCO ZerAx fans, the centre achieves significantly lower energy consumption, reduced installation needs, and lower operational costs compared to conventional data centres. It is set to become one of the world’s most energy-efficient facilities.
Odense University Hospital – CO2 reduction and energy savings of more than 50%
Odense University Hospital has one of the largest heated floor areas in the Danish healthcare sector, covering 280,000 m2. The annual energy consumption for electricity, water, and heating exceeds 100 million Danish kroner or approx. 13 million Euros. Ventilation accounts for the largest share of this consumption, making it a key target for efficiency improvements.
The hospital has now completed the first stage of its fan replacement programme. So far, 35 outdated fans have been replaced with new, energy-efficient units from NOVENCO. The new fans operate alongside the ventilation systems from the 1950s and 1960s, yet the improvements have been immediate and significant. Energy savings have already surpassed 50%, demonstrating the impact of modern fan technology even in legacy installations.
Aarhus Concert Hall – more than 170 tons less CO2 each year
The Aarhus Concert Hall opened in August 1982 and expanded in 2007 with an additional 17,000 m2. Today, the building covers more than 33,000 m2 and includes 500 rooms. It annually attracts 700,000 visitors and hosts more than 1,000 events.
