Designed by OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture), BLOX represents a sophisticated engineering challenge in central Copenhagen. This transparent glass complex houses advanced car park ventilation systems within the Danish Architecture Centre and BLOXHUB innovation environment.
The facility combines recreational spaces, exhibitions, research facilities, and the BLOX EATS restaurant. Since the building serves such diverse functions, multiple bridges connect the city and harbour, demonstrating how technical infrastructure supports architectural innovation. This multi-functional approach required careful coordination between architectural vision and mechanical system requirements.
BLOX's fully automated underground car park has unique ventilation requirements. The system serves 350 spaces through six automated lifts that park and retrieve vehicles in two minutes, so traditional driver access to underground levels is completely eliminated.
Automation demands precise airflow control for equipment protection and operational safety. Without proper ventilation, automated parking equipment risks overheating and malfunction, compromising both efficiency and safety.

The technical complexity of BLOX required a multi-component ventilation strategy. NOVENCO Building & Industry delivered 4 reversible jet fans type ARO-380 positioned strategically at entrance areas to manage bidirectional airflow. Custom red powder coating provides architectural integration with the black walls and grey flooring.
NOVENCO jet fans provide bi-directional airflow control essential for automated parking operations. ARO-380 units deliver consistent performance within confined lift access areas, but the performance must adapt to varying load conditions as vehicles enter and exit. The reversible capability allows the system to respond dynamically to operational demands.
NovAx ACN fans provide measured exhaust capacity across multiple building zones as different areas require different ventilation rates. Exhibition spaces, research facilities, and parking infrastructure each demand tailored airflow solutions. The solution ensures compliance with ventilation standards while supporting diverse operational requirements.
The collaboration with Airteam demonstrates integrated technical planning in complex architectural projects. The automated parking system operates efficiently with the ventilation infrastructure supporting equipment reliability and user safety. Red powder-coated finishes showcase how technical equipment can enhance architectural visions without compromising them.
